A seventh-inning rally fell tantalizingly close Tuesday, but North Fayette Valley left the winning run on base in falling to New Hampton, 5-4, in a Regional softball playoff contest July 8, in West Union.

Warrior SB looking forward to playoffs

 

 

The South Winn softball team was looking forward to the Class 2A Region 3 playoffs that began yesterday (Tuesday, July 8) on the Warriors home diamond. The foe was Nashua-Plainfield, who entered the night at 8-17.

The South Winn baseball team remains on top of it game with six more wins last week, including an impressive 4-2 victory over the Class 4A sixth-ranked Cedar Falls Tigers on Saturday.

West Central swept a pair of softball games from Postville Wednesday, July 2, in Postville.

In other UIC action, the Devils took it on the chin from Sumner-Fredericksburg and Turkey Valley. Over the weekend the rapidly improving Devils lost four close games against tough competition in the Don Bosco Tournament.

Powerful Decorah was just too deep for the West Union Swim Team, especially in Decorah’s home waters, as WU suffered its first loss of the season, 543-223.

According to coach Meredith Murray, “We put up a great effort, and all of the kids swam well; we just came up short.”

North Fayette Valley ended the softball regular season with a 7-1 week, capped by one of its best runs in the Don Bosco Tournament in Gilbertville over the weekend.

Next for the TigerHawks is the Class 3A Region 4 playoffs, which began Tuesday (July 8) in West Union. New Hampton was the 7 p.m. opponent. The Chickasaws were in the top 10 midway through the season, but wound up losing 11 of their final 14 games.

The baseball season is winding down for the North Fayette Valley TigerHawks. With the Class 2A, District 8 playoffs beginning Saturday (see box for playoff summary) coach Dan Hovden and his TigerHawks are busy getting ready for postseason ball.

West Central had a full week of softball with six games in the UIC, a game at Oelwein, and three games at the Denver Tournament over the weekend.

The highlight of the week was a sweep of Starmont, 9-5 and 9-7, on Monday, June 23, in Maynard.

The West Union Swim Team sank two more opponents last week, beating Sumner, 538-176, on Tuesday (June 24) in West Union and Cresco, 447-274, Thursday in Cresco.

TigerHawk baseball sweeps own tourney

 

 

The North Fayette Valley baseball team won both games of its weekend tournament, beating Central Springs, 7-3, and St. Ansgar, 9-6.

In other games last week, the TigerHawks won five of their six games. Monday, June 23, they swept former UIC contender Sumner-Fredericksburg, 5-0 and 3-2.
