In two years Valley alum Levi Fink has gone from the Iowa Class 1A Co-Golfer of the Year to the junior college golf national champion.

 Fink became the champion of the  National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in its annual four-day tournament Tuesday through Friday, May 20-23, in Plymouth, Ind.

Grimm to golf at State

Grimm to golf at State

 

 

West Central senior Chase Grimm has been on a roll on area golf courses lately, leading his team on and off the green.

On Friday, the Blue Devils competed for a coveted spot at the State Golf Meet, falling short, but Grimm finished 11th with 79 strokes to earn an individual berth at the big event.

Grimm will tee off at noon Friday, May 30, at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

NFV sets five personal records at State Track

North Fayette Valley sent 12 events to the State Track Meet in Des Moines over the weekend and five set personal- or season-bests.

Danny Halva scored the first points at a State Track Meet in TigerHawk history after finishing sixth in the 3200, scoring three points.

Warriors crowned State-Qualifying champs

 

Every year it is the goal of every athlete to make it to the State Meet, and this year was no exception for any member of the South Winn boys’ track team. So much so that 14 events qualified on Thursday, despite the frigid temperatures that had parents wrapped in piles of blankets as they cheered the Warriors on to be crowned the champions of the State Qualifying Meet in Osage with 115 points.

Overall, the South Winn girls’ track team should be proud of what it accomplished Thursday at the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Osage — six events move on to Drake Stadium.

“Overall, we really performed as well as we could have. Everyone competed hard, and it showed with a great team effort,” said coach Kevin Kearney.

SW golfers advance to second round

 

 

It was the week the South Winn golf teams had been building up for — the annual UIC and Sectional Meets, and both belonged to the South Winn boys.

The Lady Warriors finished runner-up in the UIC at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette. On Monday the squad finished second at the District Meet at Guttenberg Golf and Country Club.

WC boys to golf at District

 

 

The West Central boys’ golf team made headlines last week after finishing third at the UIC Conference Meet on Tuesday, May 13, in Luana, then qualifying for District play after a third-place finish at the

Sectional Tournament Friday in Strawberry Point.

Hud Jonhston and Chase Grimm finished in the top 15 at the UIC to earn All-Conference honors, and Johnston went on to be one of five golfers from the Starmont Sectional to qualify for District competition.

The West Central girls’ track team finished the season last week, hosting the Blue Devil Relays Monday, May 12, in Oelwein and competing at the State Qualifying Meet Thursday, May 15, in Denver.

At Denver, the Blue Devils scored 24 team points but could not get an event to qualify for the State Meet this week in Des Moines

The North Fayette boys’ golf team concluded its season with a second-place finish in the UIC Meet on Tuesday, May 13, in Luana and placed third in the Sectional Meet Friday in Charles City.

NFV had five golfers earn All-Conference honors at the UIC Meet as the TigerHawks finished with a 329, eight strokes behind champion South Winn.

SW’s Logan and Trevor Schweinefus had the two lowest scores with a 72 and 76, respectively.
