…60th anniversary…

Paul and Rita Gerleman of Ossian will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 25, with family members.

Paul Gerleman and Rita Kriener were married Aug. 25, 1953, by Monsignor Francis L. Schuh at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas.

The couple are the parents of seven children, Floyd (Pam) Gerleman of Urbandale, Duane (Viola) Gerleman and Kevin (Sharon) Gerleman, both of Ridgeway, Karen (Duane) Martin of Fayette, Loren (Stephanie) Gerleman of Winterset, Sue (Dean) Vrba of Fort Atkinson, and Bruce Gerleman of Calmar. Their family also includes a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

North High Class of 1958 Reunion set

The first graduating class of North Fayette Community School District (1958) will hold its 55-Year Reunion on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the West Union Country Club.

Social time will be at 5 p.m.; members of graduating classes a few years before or after 1958 are cordially invited to join the social time.

  Dinner will be at 7 p.m.  Following the program, the show band Fusion will perform.

Fayette Class 1958

Ten members of the 1958 graduating class of Fayette High School met at the West Union Country Club for their 55-Year Class Reunion on Friday, July 19. Classmates attending were (front, l-r) Wanda (Tope) Kaufman, Rhea Van Bogart, Judy (Moore) Stalkfleet, Janice (Schabacker) Reifsteck; (back) Steven Talcott, Max Gross, Barbara (Kauten) Gehrke, Bob Marvin, Mary Lou (Buhman) Weyant, and Janis (Bennington) VanBuren. Also attending the get-together were spouses and other family members. After the meal, a social time was spent discussing family and reminiscing about fun times at Fayette High. Helen (Buchheit) Halstead of West Union will be the guest of honor at an open house celebrating her 80th birthday. The event will be held on her birthday, Sunday, Aug. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holy Name Parish Center in West Union.

The luncheon will be hosted by her nine children, Jim (Jackie) and Mark (Linda) Halstead of West Union; Lois White of Polk City; Dave (Cathy) Halstead of Cincinnati; Kathy (Chuck) Glatz, Mary (Alan) Lynch and Teresa Halstead (Jeff Bryant), all of Ames; Art (Angela) Halstead of Pella; and Joyce (Curt) Meyer of Minneapolis.

Matt and Stefanie Swinton of Dike welcomed their first child into the world on Friday, June 21, 2013.

Their son, Hayden James, was born at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz. and measured 20 inches in length.

Grandparents are Eric and Kaylene Nesvik of West Union, Curt Swinton of Nashua, and Kim and Mike Knight of Mount Horeb, Wis.

Great-grandparents are Justine Nesvik, Jim and Delores Friederich, all of West Union, and Charles and Rita Swinton of Nashua.

Cael Neil Wilkinson was born Monday, June 10, 2013, to proud parents Neil and Heidi Wilkinson of Fairbank.

Born at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Cael weighed 9 lbs. 3 oz. and measured 21.5 inches in length.

Big brother Tate, 3, helped to welcome him home.

Grandparents are Keith and Peggy Schlatter of Hawkeye, Dave Smith and Charlene Schwirtz of Randalia, and Ron and Cindy Wilkinson of Westgate.

…married recently…

Marcy Amundson of Clermont and Darren Kraus of Elgin were united in marriage on Saturday, July 6, at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont. The Rev. Bob Oelson of Omaha, Neb., officiated at the 4 p.m. ceremony.

Marcy is the daughter of John and Heidi Amundson of Clermont. Darren is the son of Curtis and Diane Kraus of Postville.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory A-line gown of metallic taffeta. The bodice, which featured a sweetheart neckline, was asymmetrically ruched and accented with a handmade ivory floral sash embellished with crystals, which were also scattered throughout the pickup skirt. The gown was finished with a corset closure in the back. Marcy carried a clutch bouquet of light and dark coral roses.
