Virgil Reckward, 88, of Castalia died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian.

Memorial services were held Thursday, Jan. 23, at Ossian Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dave Lenth as the officiant.

Inurnment followed in Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, assisted the family with the arrangements.

Virgil Delbert Reckward was born May 16, 1925 to Herman and Mabel (Harvey) Reckward in rural Castalia. He attended country school through the eighth grade and the Castalia High School.

Carol Cornish, 87, of Webster City died on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Southfield Wellness Community.  Memorial service & visitation will be held in April in Hawkeye, IA.  Memorials may be given to Southfield Wellness community.

Carol was born on July 26, 1926 in Aurora, IA to Mike and Marie (Puttnam) Anderman.  She married Irvin (Jack) Cornish, Jr. on December 16, 1945 in Arlington, IA.  Carol ran a small lunch shop, and also woked as a cashier at Treager grocery store and as a production worker.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Hawkeye, and the women’s auxiliary.  After moving to Webster city she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Jean A. Nuss, 75, of Hawkeye, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at her rural Hawkeye home.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye with Rev. David R. Nelson officiating.  Interment will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28th, 2013, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, and also one before services at the church on Thursday.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Ossian Lutheran Church, Ossian, with Rev. Dave Lenth as the Officiant.

Inurnment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.

Patricia M. Zweibohmer, 85, of Lisbon, formerly of Ossian, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. 

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Jan. 17, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, with Msgr. Cletus Hawes as the Celebrant.

Burial followed at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Ossian.

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, assisted the family with the arrangements.

Patricia Mae, the daughter of Raymond and Charlotte (Keck) Lewis, was born March 4, 1928, in Decorah. Pat was baptized and confirmed at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah and attended St. Benedict’s Parochial School.  Pat graduated from Ossian High School. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a dental assistant.

Laverna Rosina Nowak, age 78, of Albert Lea, Minn., died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society in Bancroft Township, Freeborn Co., Minn. A

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea, Minn., with Father Timothy Reker will officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

Laverna Nowak was born on Nov. 5, 1935, in Frankville Township, Winneshiek County, the daughter of Felix and Bertha (Wenthold) Ehler. 

She attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Ossian, and after graduation she attended Sisters of St. Francis convent in Dubuque.

Yvonne E. Kuhens, 73, of Wabash, Ind., died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at St. Vincents Hospital in Indianapolis.

Memorial services will be held at 11a.m. Thursday, Jan.23, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1500 S. Wabash Street, Wabash, with Dr. Kent Young officiating. 

Friends may call Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, and one hour prior to the service, Thursday, at the church. 

There will be a memorial service held in the East Clermont Lutheran Church in rural Clermont at a later date.

Preferred memorials are to Trinity Lutheran Church or V.N.A. Hospice Homecare in Valparaiso, Ind.

Walter L. Saur, Ret. Brigadier General, 86, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 at his home with family members at his side.

Celebration of Life Funeral Service:  10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Connie Markle officiating.

Visitation:  3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Public Military Service: 6:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post #9.

Interment:  Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa with Graveside Rites by the Air Force Military Honor Guard.

Donna Kay Hughes Gross, age 63, passed away at her home in West Union, Iowa on January 9, 2014.

Donna was born in Postville, Iowa, on July 18, 1951. She was baptized on August 8, 1951 at Frankville Community Presbyterian Church in Frankville, Iowa.  Donna confirmed her faith on May 11, 1965, at Frankville Presbyterian Church.

Donna was a farm wife and an EMT.  She worked as a Fayette County Dispatch Supervisor until she and Reggie retired last year.

Donna and Reggie were married on May 15, 1993 at Goeken Park in Eldorado.
