The Upper Iowa Conference seniors are once again getting ready to put on a basketball extravaganza.

The annual Senior All-Star Game is scheduled for Friday, March 28, in the North Fayette Valley gym in West Union.

The jam-packed evening starts at 6 p.m. and will include seven different events.

First is a basketball game featuring the UIC senior girls game with the senior boys competing in a 3-point shooting contest at halftime.

At 7 p.m. the girls will compete in a free-throw contest, followed by a two-ball contest. In the two-ball competition, girls and guys from their school pair up and have chances to shoot layups, free throws and 3-pointers; there is even a four-point line – and yes a last-second four-pointer has won the event in the past.

The boys’ game will start at 7:45 p.m. with the girls’ 3-point contest at halftime.

The evening concludes with a slam-dunk contest in which players emulate their college and pro heroes. Fans can watch players salute as they twirl though the air or leap over another player on the way to the bucket.

Fans never know how any of these events will play out. There can be many surprises.

Will there be no fouls or will a referee draw a foul as happened one year? Will some players try new things, like a post player who never shot outside almost winning the 3-point contest? Will a reserve who was 2-7 for the year from beyond the arc hit nine treys to win the 3-point contest?

With all the talent on the floor – and there will be a number of college coaches in the stands evaluating the talent – someone will step up and win the MVP award of each game– and it’s not always the biggest name coming in!

Throw in some contests and door prizes for the fans, and the evening promises to be full of fun, surprises and some exciting basketball.

The action begins at 6 p.m. with admission at $3 per person.
