NFV boys win 6th in UIC

The North Fayette Valley boys’ basketball team won its sixth game in the UIC last week when it overwhelmed Starmont, 66-32, on Friday, Jan. 24, on the Stars’ home court.

Tuesday, Jan. 21, NFVlost at Postville, 62-42, and moved to 6-4 on Saturday when it lost in Calmar, 53-45.

Friday, the TigerHawks overwhelmed the Stars, 66-32.

NFV led the whole way, capping the night with a 21-2 fourth quarter. In all, 10 different players scored for NFV with Thomas Hanson leading the way with 11 points. Lincoln Johansen was also in double figures with 10 points.

Once again, the TigerHawks grabbed 39 rebounds, including 16 off the offensive glass. Alex Callahan and Johansen led the rebounding effort with eight boards apiece; Callahan also blocked seven shots. Dakota Moore added six rebounds to the 39-board effort.

Tuesday in Postville, the TigerHawks could not solve the Pirates’ mid-court trapping defense, falling 62-42.

NFV outrebounded the Pirates, 39-20, but only shot 16-41 from the floor and 0-5 from 3-point range. Postville hit 20-46 shots and five treys.

Alex Callahan led the scoring for NFV with 10 points. Johansen and Austin Callahan added eight points apiece.

Saturday, NFV finally played its twice-delayed game against South Winn, falling 53-45.

Back-to-back baskets by Hunter Hoopes and Phil Kleve gave the TigerHawks an 11-10 lead going into the second quarter.

However, SW rallied to lead, 28-23, at the half. Neither team scored much in the third quarter, with SW outscoring NFV 7-4.

The final eight minutes were close as the TigerHawks rallied to trail by just four, 45-41, with 2:07 to play. Then SW went on a 9-4 run to salt the game away.

Tristan Riley had his best scoring night of the season with 11 points; he also led in assists with four. Hanson, Hoopes, and Austin Callahan each tallied seven points. Alex Callahan swept the boards for eight rebounds with Moore capturing five.
