SW netters fall to Cougars

SW netters end season at S-F

Facing Class 2A No. 3 Sumner-Fredericksburg, South Winn's season came to an end in the first round of the Class 2A regional volleyball tournament Tuesday, Oct. 22.
The Lady Warriors ended the season 16-17 overall, while the Cougars advanced to the second round and faced MFL/MarMac (0-24) Tuesday (Oct. 29) in Sumner.
South Winn opened the postseason, falling behind quickly, 5-1. Megan Hageman served up several points to bring the Lady Warriors closer at 8-6, but that would be as close as SW would get in game one as it lost, 25-19.
In game two, the Lady Warriors struggled to handle the Cougars' serves and trailed 15-1 early. Not able to string together any serves, SW fell 25-5 in the second set.
Game three was a little more positive for South Winn as Leah Elsbernd served up three points to set the score 15-6 in favor of the Warriors' opponent. SW concluded the season with a 25-9 game three loss.
Seniors Micole Lansing and Megan Elsbernd led the offensive attack with seven and four kills, respectively. Lansing also had South Winn's lone block.
Defensively it was Carlee Knutson with six digs; Becca Franzen and Lexie Warth added five.
Dishing out 15 assists was Franzen. Earlier in the season at the Charles City Tournament, the junior broke the 1394 assist record previously set by Angie (McEnaney) Einck in 2002. Franzen concluded the year with 1609 career assists.
