Despite entering Thursday’s match third in the UIC, the Lady Warriors found out why Sumner-Fredericksburg is rated third in Class 2A — speed, agility, and depth. South Winn was thrown off-balance and struggled at the service line throughout the three-game matchup, falling, 3-0.

Unfortunately it is also a team that South Winn will face on Thursday, Oct. 24, in the first round of regional volleyball action.

Through the first eight serves, the Lady Warriors looked evenly matched against the Cougars before giving up three quick tallies that were hard to overcome as S-F found the holes in the middle of the floor. S-F remained in control of the tempo for the duration to win, 25-13.

Game two started off similar to the first, but a seven-serve quest by the Cougars snatched a substantial 12-5 lead that SW was never able to overcome, falling, 25-10.

Miscues and missed opportunities hindered the Lady Warriors in game three as SW fell, 25-8.

Lexie Warth paced the offensive attack with nine kills versus the Cougars with Becca Franzen dishing out 14 assists.

It was Leah Elsbernd and Brittany Shindelar shouldering the defense with five and four digs, respectively.
