UIU Coach’s Corner

UIU Coach’s Corner

Minn.-Duluth (1-0, 1-0) @ UIU (1-0, 1-0)

“This team is the standard-bearer among DII schools,” stated UIU head coach Tom Shea.

The Bulldogs have won two national titles in the last six years and been part of the DII playoffs for every one of those years.

“They don’t rebuild, they reload,” noted Shea of a team that has a number of D1 transfers on this year’s squad.

The potent UIU offense has a real challenge since the Duluth D held the high-powered Sioux Falls O completely in check.

“They have their entire front seven back from last year,” Shea explained. “They run a 34, move their linemen around and will blitz.”

The Bulldogs use a spread offense with a lot of play action and bootleg.

“Their line is very physical with good athletes,” Shea concluded.

The game will be at Harms-Eischeid Stadium with the kickoff at 6 p.m. Saturday.
