One of Iowa's most renowned wildlife artists is returning to West Union as a special guest of the Fayette County Thundering Toms on Saturday, April 13.

As part of the local National Wild Turkey Federation Chapter's Hunting Heritage Banquet at Echo Valley Banquet Center in West Union, Larry Zach will showcase his latest release, “Evening Snowfall-Decorah Eagles.” Zach also attended the 2008 Fayette County Thundering Toms Banquet.

While acknowledging that he is no longer as actively involved on the banquet/outdoor show circuit as he was years ago, Zach said that he continues to especially enjoy attending outdoor-related banquets throughout the state.

“My wife and I are both nature lovers, so we greatly appreciate the opportunity to help support organizations whose memberships share similar interests and appreciation for the outdoors,” the artist said from his home on Thursday. “Each visit provides us the opportunity to renew old friendships or meet new people.

“I have always been impressed with the dedication of those individuals, such as those with the Fayette County Thundering Toms, who help organize these events, year in and year out,” he added.

Zach reported that the “Evening Snowfall-Decorah Eagles” canvas print, which will be available at the local Thundering Toms Banquet, is one of only 250 in production. In addition, he will personalize the print for the individual who takes it home that evening.

Five additional Zach prints will be available during the April 13 banquet. The artist said he would also personalize Zach items previously purchased. He noted he typically does this during an event’s social hour.

The local Thundering Toms fundraiser will also include a long list of additional raffle/auction items such bows, blinds, grills, and over 25 guns. Zach intends to also autograph a gunstock during the event. In addition, the piebald turkey shot by Dean Mueller of West Union in 2012 will be on display (See outdoor feature in this week’s Union).

Early-bird banquet and raffle tickets are available at special incentive prices if purchased prior to April 5. To purchase tickets, call Don Holthaus at (563) 419-5390 or Rick Kuennen at (563) 387-7770.
